The Race

The 12th annual 5k run/walk is on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 9 am. The course starts in Union Square Park and winds through and around Southwest Baltimore’s historic landmarks and parks, including Hollins Market, the Irish Railroad Workers Museum, the B&O Railroad Museum, the Mount Clare Museum House in Carroll Park, and the H.L. Mencken House and Museum. The course showcases Sowebo’s rich cultural diversity, architectural beauty, historic landmarks, and parks. Race participants enjoy refreshments and music during the awards ceremony in historic Union Square.

T-Shirts, Amenities, Awards: All participants receive a Sowebo Landmark 5K T-shirt and all youth finishers receive a medal. Top male and female finishers receive gift cards, and top finishers in many age categories receive medals. There will be a post-race celebration with music, refreshments, and prizes for randomly selected bib numbers.

Charity Beneficiaries: Southwest Sports and Fitness Alliance & other youth programs in southwest Baltimore

Registration: The registration fee is $25 for 5K run/walk participants through July 31, 2023, $30 from August 1 – September 30, 2023. Race day registration is from 7:30 to 8:45 AM and the fee is $35.

Youth Registrations: All youth 18 years of age and younger run for FREE. All participants under 18 must still complete registration, which includes a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

Parking: Street parking is available around Union Square Park (the race start and finish) and in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Restrictions: No dogs, skateboards, rollerblades/rollerskates, or scooters are allowed on the course.
